The 5-inch screen will be a great fit for users who find themselves depending on visuals as much or more than voice prompts. It’s larger than the average screen, and the bigger screen does add some weight. This navigation GPS weighs 9.17 ounces, which is more than double the weight of some of the other units we reviewed. This will detract from portability somewhat, but this won’t to matter to everyone, especially since it is mainly designed to remain in your car. If you take it along in your backpack between uses, though, its weight is worth some consideration.
TomTom claims this navigation GPS unit knows your location within about 30 meters. That’s the least accurate of all of the companies we considered, but again, this is a car navigation GPS unit. Those 30 yards would matter more on a recreation unit where you need to know down to the step instead of the mile.
This navigation GPS unit comes with lifetime traffic and map updates included. These maps are known for covering an extensive amount of territory. TomTom takes its map quality very seriously. TomTom’s Latest Map Guarantee, Map Update Service and Map Share all work together to ensure that your maps are accurate.
Map Share means you have speedy access to verified updates from other TomTom users. If there is a road closure or some other change and another user notifies TomTom, its employees verify the change. You can download all verified changes once a day. You will receive map updates four times a year, and the traffic information is updated in real time automatically on an ongoing basis.
TomTom helps you always get the right route with its IQ Routes feature, which takes rush hours, pedestrian traffic and time of day into account to find the most efficient route and give you an accurate time of arrival.
Lane guidance offers peace of mind by telling you not only what turn to take, but also which lane to be in when you make the turn. The crisp images and blinking arrow really help to clarify the way each time.
This navigation GPS has many ways to make your drive easier, including an interface that is easy to manipulate. You just use your fingers on the surface of the screen to zoom in or change perspective in a number of ways. Bluetooth compatibility means you can make calls with ease without taking your hands off the wheel.
This device is one of the units we reviewed that display the speed limits on the screen in many parts of the globe. That feature is going to keep you ticket free.
TomTom’s customer service is pretty good. We received fast and friendly help through email and over the phone.

We got service with its live chat feature, but it was not too helpful, or even friendly. Still, we’re glad to have the live-chat option with TomTom.
